Staying in Potrero or Playa Flamingo puts you in a great position to discover some of the most beautiful places on Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast.

Within this part of Guanacaste, a relatively short trip can take you from quiet beach communities to white-sand beaches, surf towns, marine adventures and some of the area’s most popular destinations.

But exploring the region isn’t only about deciding where to go.

It is also about choosing the right way to get there.

Some places are perfect for short local trips by golf cart. Others are better explored by scooter or motorcycle, while longer journeys or organized activities may make more sense with a transfer.

Here are some of the places and experiences worth discovering while staying around Potrero and Flamingo.

Start with Potrero and Playa Flamingo

Potrero and Playa Flamingo make an excellent base for exploring this part of Guanacaste.

Potrero has a relaxed atmosphere, local restaurants and easy access to several nearby beaches, while Flamingo offers one of the area’s best-known beaches as well as the Marina Flamingo.

For visitors staying locally, many everyday trips between accommodations, restaurants, beaches and shops can be made without relying on a traditional rental car.

This is where an electric golf cart can be particularly convenient.

If you’re planning to stay primarily around Potrero, Flamingo and nearby communities, you can learn more in our Golf Cart Rental in Playa Potrero guide and our guide to safe golf cart routes around Potrero and Flamingo.

Discover Brasilito

A short journey south brings you to Playa Brasilito, a lively local beach community that offers a different atmosphere from Flamingo.

Brasilito is also an important gateway for visitors heading toward Playa Conchal.

It is worth spending some time here rather than simply passing through: walk around the village, stop for something to eat and experience a more local side of coastal Guanacaste.

We’ve created a complete Playa Brasilito Costa Rica Guide with ideas about what to do and how to get around.

Spend a Day at Playa Conchal

Continue south and you’ll reach one of Guanacaste’s most famous beaches: Playa Conchal.

Known for its distinctive shoreline and clear water, Conchal is an easy destination to include in a day exploring the coast.

Visitors staying inside or around Reserva Conchal should plan their transportation according to their accommodation and intended route.

We have separate guides covering Playa Conchal and golf cart rental in Reserva Conchal, so you can plan the area in more detail before heading out.

Go Further: Playa Grande

If you want to explore beyond the immediate Potrero–Flamingo–Brasilito area, Playa Grande is an excellent next destination.

The area is known for its long Pacific beach and strong surf culture, and the journey itself gives you an opportunity to see more of Guanacaste beyond the main resort communities.

This is also where choosing the right vehicle becomes important.

A golf cart is designed primarily for local transportation around our service area and is not the right vehicle for every longer coastal journey.

For visitors who want greater freedom to explore destinations farther away, a scooter or motorcycle may be a more practical option depending on the route and conditions.

Continue to Tamarindo

For an even bigger change of atmosphere, spend some time in Tamarindo.

It is one of Guanacaste’s best-known beach towns, with restaurants, shops, nightlife, surfing and plenty of activities.

Rather than treating Tamarindo as your only destination, it can be part of a wider day exploring the coast from Potrero or Flamingo.

A scooter or motorcycle gives independent travelers more flexibility for this kind of exploration, while a private transfer can be a comfortable alternative when you would rather enjoy the day without thinking about driving.

Golf Cart, Scooter or Transfer: Which One Makes Sense?

There isn’t one vehicle that is ideal for every trip in Guanacaste.

Golf carts work particularly well for local transportation around Potrero, Flamingo, Brasilito and our supported delivery area. Our fleet is fully electric and includes both 4-passenger and 6-passenger models.

Scooters and motorcycles can make more sense when you want to explore farther and have more flexibility between destinations.

And private transfers are useful when comfort is the priority, when you’re traveling with luggage, or when you simply don’t want to drive.

The important thing is to choose transportation according to the journey rather than trying to make one vehicle work for every destination.

Guanacaste Is More Than Beaches

Driving from one beach to another is only part of the experience.

The Pacific coast also offers a completely different perspective from the water.

Depending on availability and conditions, visitors can spend part of their vacation enjoying experiences such as catamaran trips, scuba diving and sport fishing.

A catamaran trip can turn an afternoon on the coast into time spent out on the Pacific, often with the sunset as the final part of the experience.

Scuba diving offers another way to discover Guanacaste, this time below the surface.

And for visitors interested in the region’s offshore waters, sport fishing can become an entire day on the ocean.

These experiences require different planning from simply visiting a beach, so if there is something in particular you’d like to do during your stay, ask us. We can help you understand the available options and organize the experience through our local partners.

Build Your Own Guanacaste Day

One of the advantages of staying around Potrero and Flamingo is that you don’t necessarily need a rigid itinerary.

You could start with breakfast near Potrero, spend part of the morning at Flamingo, continue toward Brasilito and Conchal, or dedicate another day to exploring farther toward Playa Grande and Tamarindo.

On another day, leave the roads behind completely and head out on the Pacific for a catamaran trip, diving experience or fishing excursion.

The important thing is not to try to fit everything into one day.

Guanacaste is better experienced slowly.
